Merry Christmas

24 12 2009

Merry Christmas to y’all.
I know I didn’t write to you for 1 1/2 months which is a long long time. And I apologize for that. From now on I will try to write more often again.
We had kind of a christmas miracle happening. Just Sunday we had about 15°C and we went caroling with our church in T-shirts because it was warm enough. But yesterday evening it starts to snow…so we have a WHITE CHRISTMAS yeah.
Quite a few things happened since November:
We went to Dallas to visit one of Lynda’s sons and her mother what only left one of lynda’s sons unmet ;-) but he arrived Monday evening so now I know all of Lynda’s family. In Dallas we also met Gary’s best friend from college and we all had a great time going shopping and watching the Nebraska vs. University of Texas football game. University of Texas unfortunately won (people in Lubbock don’t like University of Texas).
On the Sunday we went to a huge church named Fellowship church. It’s somehow like Willow Creek. It’s a (Germans would call it like that) “Freikirche” so Rock-music nothing really traditional. I kinda liked it but it wasn’t a church I would go to every sunday. It’s more for people who never heard anything about God.
We also went to the First Christian church in Lubbock on the 3rd Sunday of Advent for their Christmas music. It is a big church so consequently the choir was good and the musical ensemble was good as well. I like that church much better than Fellowship. And then the Sunday after that we had our Christmas music in our church. It was better than everybody expected so I really liked it.
And then last Friday I was peeling potatoes for supper and I hurried up because it was already late, so I hit my finger with the potato peeler and I cut off quite a big piece of my finger… it bled as ….I don’t know but about 30 minutes.. and I started to feel dizzy because I lost quite a bit of blood. We didn’t go to the ER because it really wasn’t necessary. Now it’s pretty good again I’m typing right now with my index finger (Zeigefinger) spread out because it hurts when I type with it.
I also got my letter-jacket. I guess y’all saw those in college/high school movies. These are the thick jackets with a Letter on in… mine is black totally black with a white and red C on it for Cooper High School.
It’s the coolest thing ever…
I guess there were more things happening but I forgot about them…
So know I wish y’all a merry christmas and a happy new year.
Greetings Malte

P.S. y’all is texan for you all which is english for euch allen

Hey everybody

5 11 2009

I’m sorry that I didn’t write very much the last time.
First of all I’d really like to thank everybody who sent me birthday greetings… I had soooo many e-mails when I checked ‘em on the evening of the 2nd…. Most of ‘em were from svz but…. still ;-)
I had a good birthday… It was nothing totally special but I had fun. I stayed almost all day in school because I practiced with my choir teacher Mrs. Hokett for the pre-area auditions next weekend.
I’m very very nervous already because I know that I have chances to make it but it’s clear… so I have to be good….
I also have been to a college football game Texas A&M vs. Texas Tech (the university in Lubbock) it’s a one of the 2 most important games for Tech (the other one is against UT -University of Texas in Austin) because these three teams are the only good college teams in Texas so we really like to win ‘em but we lost against TU because they are ranked the 3rd best team in the US and we also lost the game I’ve been to against Texas A&M and that was very sad because they are usually not that good. But our 1st string quarterback was still not fit and the 2nd string quarterback was hurt so we started with the still hurt 1st string but he sucked so we changed to the 3rd string quarterback…. so basically we really got beaten very badly…
but it was still a great experience… I loved the marching bands…
We need these in Germany they are so great.
For everybody who has something to do with the Gospelprojekt:
My High School choir tries to do “Listen to the Sound of Angles” now I really hope it will be a success but I will tell you how it’s going.
Halloween was pretty funny I went to a friend of mine and we watched with about 14 people movies… they were quite good. ;-) we had a lot of fun.
I didn’t dress up but there was a costume contest in my school…. they were a bunch of freaks…
;-) I had fun…
The 2nd 6 weeks are almost over so it’s about time for another progress report but I shouldn’t have a problem… I’m a great student… xD
So I will go to bed now…
I’ll try to write a little bit more often and I will tell y’all what the pre-area auditions will bring…

Now a music tip for y’all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLW6G6LYLt4
I hope it works… If not please tell me..

Love y’all

See ya Malte

All-Region / Homecoming

11 10 2009

Hey people,
On Friday was Lubbock Coopers Homecoming day so game and dance…. we desperatley lost the game. something like 15:36 But who cares… The “right” person became Homecoming queen and everything is good.
I couldn’t stay for the dance because I had the Regien- Auditions the next day….
pictures of the whole homecoming stuff are coming up in this week. It’s not that big here at Cooper.
But back to All-Region. I got up on Saturday morning at 5:30am and we left at 6:45am towards Snyder. And mz audition was somtimes around 2-3 pm so I had to wait SOOOO long…
but finally after a awefully long time of waiting they anounced the people in Region and District choir… (District choir doesn’t sing it’s just an honor) 1-24= District 1-14 region 1-12 allowed to audition for area.
So two friends of mine made 2nd chair in their sections. And then it was time for Bass1….. and my heart never beat like this…. it was strange. After I wasn’t anounced in chair 24-15 I got so nervous and I finally ot 6th chair…. and that’s SOOO awesome…
So now I’m in Region choir (and District choir) and we’re going to have a concert with Region in November and the Auditions for Area are in November too.
that’s it people I need sleep
Bye Love you

football….

26 09 2009

Hey everybody
Yesterday was the 2nd home football game against Brownfield and we won YEAH… 44:8
It was a pretty good game and I had a lot of fun. I caught one of the t-shirts the cheerleaders threw.
I took some pictures and I’ll show them to you in the end of the article.
I went to watch it with some friends and we hung around before the game and I heard several times that I would be the coolest German(they had a German exchange student in school last year) and the coolest exchange student (there are a bunch in school and they had a bunch the last year) so that really makes me feel good.
I also got to know my area rep Connie. And she’s pretty cool. I like her ;-)
school is going pretty good. I’m a good student and I don’t study that much. I’m not the best but I don’t have to.
So in US History I’m the best in Math I’m at the top of the class. in Chemistry: top of the class. And sociology too. And in english I’m alright… so I’m still at the top of the class but it’s harder.
But the teachers really like me that’s a good advantage. And it’s not because I’m an exchange students *because I’m no longer than one month in school it’s because they just like me.
All in all the relationship between students and teachers are much closer than in Germany.
Alright. Unfortunately there’s nothing more interesting happening in my life right now. So it’s still good but there are less special things going on.
BUT I almost forgot we have been to a courthouse last Friday with my criminal justice class. I’ll show you pictures: first of Lynn County Court house and then of the game. game pictures: In order: Emily, Mrs. West(Math teacher), Audra, Bailey, Band

Wreck’em Texas Tech….

20 09 2009

Hey everybody.
Yesterday evening was the football game between Texas Tech (the university in Lubbock) and University of Texas(UT) (Austin) and they played in Austin. It’s one of the most important games for those two teams because they are the only two good college football teams in Texas… but UT is much better than Texas Tech. But last year Tech won against UT but this year it was normal again an UT won. But Tech didn’t play bad… So we were pretty good. We watched it at home with some church choir people and it was pretty funny.
I also had a practice day yesterday in Plainview for Region choir and we rehearsed with all the parts because there were quite a lot students so we sang as a whole choir and had section rehearsals and we had simulated Auditions. And I was pretty good at the section rehearsals and when we sang with the choir but at the Audition I totally messed up…. I was good on my pitches and I was right with the rhythm but for some reasons (I think I was to nervous and maybe anything else) my voice just sounded horrible…. I was so mad at myself….. But I will practice and I’ll do it better on October 10th when the real Auditions are….
Alright that’s all for today..
Bye

The Star-Spangled Banner

14 09 2009

Hey everybody….
This week was except of somethings pretty normal so from last Monday till Thursday nothing important happened except of Wednesday when I got sick… I felt dizzy and had fever so after the 1st two periods I was forced to go home by the school nurse.
Then on Friday more important and interesting things happened. The Corsairs… (the show choir of the 9 people) should sing the National Anthem (The Star-Spangled Banner) in the Elementary school for a flag-retirement ceremony… (For everybody who doesn’t know: If in the US a flag has to be retired so if it’s to old or worn out or something like this it has to be burned that’s the only way to retire a flag don’t ask me why). So back to the story. We had to sing it there so we were practicing the whole 3rd period long and went to different classrooms (Theater class, History class) and we sang for the band teachers (the marching band I will tell you something about it later) and everybody liked it very much. The band teachers gave us advices… => they are experts xD. So now we had just 20 minutes left before we had to leave the worst case scenario happened… Our 2 Sopranos are sisters and their dad called and said they had to leave now… because they spent this weekend in Dallas and they had an earlier fly… So here we are. 3 Altos 2 Tenors 2 Basses but no Sopranos…. we were close to cancel it but than one Alto sang Soprano and we found another Alto from the mixed choir to support the 2 altos because it’s a hard part in this song for them. And we got parking tickets…. because we didn’t park at the right spot…. awesome isn’t it? But after all it was a great performance and I’m no able to sing the bass part of the national anthem but I couldn’t sing the melody. But I got the lyrics xD.
Alright the other interesting thing that happened on Friday was the first football home game and I attended it of course… And it was great. The marching band (brasses, drums, flutes) were amazing I loved it… We lost desperately but it was a great event and we had a lot of fun. unfortunately I forgot my camera so you’ll get pictures after the next game.
Bye everybody have a great week

Cooper School Song

9 09 2009

Praise to you, dear Cooper High school,
Grandest in the land;
Praise to you, our Alma Mater,
may you always stand!

1. Though the years may pass between us,
and the scenes may change;
Still to us, dear Cooper High School,
You’ll remain the same.

Praise to you, dear Cooper High school,
Grandest in the land;
Praise to you, our Alma Mater,
may you always stand!

2. May our praises ever louder
Ring against the sky,
For we’ll not forget to love you,
Dear old Cooper High.

We sang it in choir…. it’s coooool xD
it’s so typical….
